Writing on vacation

I know how it sounds. And what you're thinking: Would it kill you to take some days off? If there's one crime I'm guilty of on vacation, it's the inability not to write, or do promo stuff for my socials. I'm a bit of a workaholic, yes, but bear with me here.

The reason I always end up writing (even if it's only one paragraph) in a calming hotel room is twofold. On the one hand, it's the only way to give my characters' voices in my head an outlet. Believe it or not, but things can get pretty crowded in there - think teachers' lounge at break time, right after they've brought in snacks. On the other, all the quirky personalities in hotels present a smorgasbord of details for character development. In my opinion, vacation time never fails to bring out the worst and best qualities in people. Come on, like I'm the only one who's a sucker for drama in hotel lobbies...

So, yes. I write on vacation, and even on planes most of the times. Didn't you know? You can't be an author if you're perfectly sane. And whenever my insane self gets calm and rested, my mind simply keeps churning out those paragraphs in the background of all the action.

Like my publisher once told me, it's a great problem to have. I couldn't agree more.
